Facebook Ads to Data Studio: how to connect Meta data, what it costs and why numbers differ

Getting Facebook Ads to Data Studio takes a third-party route, because Google offers no native connector for Meta. This guide is for marketing managers and founders who want Meta spend and results beside Google Ads and GA4 in one report. I compare the four ways to do it, with prices checked in October 2026, explain what Meta's January 2026 API change did to your conversion numbers, and show when it is worth paying someone to set it up.

Quick answer

How do I connect Facebook Ads to Data Studio?

Data Studio has no native Facebook Ads connector, so you use one of four routes: a partner connector from the connector gallery, a Google Sheets add-on that pulls Meta data into a sheet, a scheduled load into BigQuery, or manual CSV exports. A partner connector is the fastest. BigQuery suits large accounts and long history.

  • Google has no native Meta connector, so every route uses a third party or a pipeline.
  • Partner connectors are fastest; Sheets and CSV are cheapest; BigQuery scales best for history.
  • Meta removed the 7-day and 28-day view attribution windows from its API in January 2026.
  • Most mismatches come from attribution settings, time zones and dates, not from broken connectors.
01

Can you connect Facebook Ads to Data Studio for free?

Yes, within limits. Several connector vendors offer free tiers that cover one ad account, and a free Google Sheets add-on can feed Data Studio through the native Sheets connector. What you give up on the free routes is account count, refresh frequency and, sometimes, history.

Data Studio itself connects natively to Google products and a set of databases: GA4, Google Ads, Search Console, Sheets, BigQuery, YouTube, Campaign Manager 360, Display and Video 360, Ad Manager, Cloud SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Redshift. Meta is not on that list, and the April 2026 rename from Looker Studio back to Data Studio did not change that. Any guide promising a built-in Facebook option is out of date or describing a partner connector.

The free tiers I checked in October 2026 on each vendor's own pages: Windsor.ai keeps a forever free plan after its trial with 1 user, 1 data source and 1 account. Data Bloo's free Facebook Ads connector allows 1 account per connector and up to 300 daily refreshes (API calls). Dataddo's free account allows up to 3 flows. These are fine for a single brand with one ad account. They stop being enough when you manage several accounts or want Meta, Google Ads and LinkedIn from one vendor.

What are the four ways to get Facebook Ads data into Data Studio?

Each route trades setup speed against cost, control and history. The right one depends on how many ad accounts you have, how far back you report, and whether Meta data must be joined to other sources.

A partner connector appears in the Data Studio connector gallery and queries Meta live (or from the vendor's cache) whenever a chart loads. A Sheets route uses an add-on to write Meta data into a Google Sheet on a schedule, and Data Studio reads the sheet. A BigQuery route loads Meta data into tables daily, either with Google's own BigQuery Data Transfer Service or with an ETL vendor, and Data Studio reads the tables. A CSV route means exporting from Ads Manager by hand and uploading or pasting the file.

How much does a Facebook Ads connector for Data Studio cost?

Entry prices run from free to about $49 a month, then climb with accounts and sources. These figures come from the vendors' own pricing pages, read in October 2026. Vendors change prices often, so confirm before you buy.

The number that matters is not the entry price but the plan you will need in six months. Count your ad accounts, the platforms you want in the same report (Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, TikTok) and the number of people who will build reports, then price the plan that fits that. A Google Ads account does not need a paid connector at all, because the Google Ads connector is native and free.

How do you connect Facebook Ads to Data Studio with a partner connector?

The setup itself is short. Most of the mistakes happen around access and ownership, not in the clicks, so the checklist below includes the parts that tutorials skip.

One decision deserves extra thought: whose Meta login authorises the connector. Data Studio data sources run on the owner's credentials by default, so viewers see the data without needing Meta access. That is what you want, but if the authorising login belongs to a freelancer or an employee who leaves, every chart breaks the day their access is removed, and Data Studio gives no warning when a connector breaks. Use a company-owned login that has access to the ad accounts through your Meta Business portfolio.

  • Confirm access: the login you authorise with must have access to every ad account in Meta Business settings.
  • Pick the connector: in Data Studio, create a data source, search the connector gallery for the vendor, and sign in to the vendor if asked.
  • Authorise Meta: approve the Meta permissions the vendor requests, using the company-owned login.
  • Choose accounts: select the ad accounts; if you have several, decide whether each gets its own data source or one combined source.
  • Check fields: confirm spend, impressions, clicks, results and the conversion actions you care about appear, with the attribution setting you expect.
  • Build and test: add charts, then compare spend and results for last month against Ads Manager before anyone else sees the report.
  • Share safely: share the report, not the data source, with people who only need to read it.

What did Meta's January 2026 API change do to Data Studio reports?

On January 12, 2026 Meta removed the 7-day view and 28-day view attribution windows from its Ads Insights API, including the combined windows built on them such as 7-day click plus 7-day view. Every connector reads Meta through that API, so any Data Studio report that used those windows started returning fewer conversions or empty fields on that date, with no change to the campaigns. ppc.land reported the change in October 2025, ahead of the date.

The same update limited history. Unique-count fields, such as unique actions and cost per unique action, and hourly breakdowns now return only 13 months of data. Frequency breakdowns return only 6 months; older start dates come back empty. If your report compares this year with two years ago on reach-style metrics, it cannot do that from the API anymore.

The practical fixes: switch the report to a click-based window or the 1-day view window that remains, note the change on the report so readers understand the step down in conversions, and if you need long history, start storing Meta data in BigQuery now. A warehouse keeps what you loaded even after the API stops serving it.

06

Why don't my Facebook Ads numbers match Data Studio?

Usually because the report and Ads Manager are asking different questions, not because data is missing. Before blaming the connector, check the settings below in order. The first three are the usual culprits.

A separate mismatch is Meta against GA4. Meta counts conversions it can attribute to an ad view or click; GA4 counts sessions and key events with its own attribution model. They will never agree, and a good report says which source each number comes from rather than putting them side by side as if they should.

  • Attribution setting: the connector may default to a different window from the one your Ads Manager columns use.
  • Time zone: the report date range uses your Data Studio settings, while Meta reports in the ad account's time zone.
  • Reporting date: Meta assigns conversions to the date of the ad impression or click, so recent days keep changing as late conversions arrive.
  • Conversion action: purchases, website purchases and offline purchases are different fields with similar names.
  • Currency: accounts in different currencies summed in one chart without conversion.
  • Deleted or archived campaigns: some connectors skip them unless you include them in the settings.
  • Caching: the vendor or Data Studio may be showing data from earlier in the day; refresh before comparing.
07

When should Facebook Ads data go through BigQuery instead?

Move to BigQuery when you need more than 13 months of history on Meta's limited fields, when you join Meta to CRM or sales data, or when a busy report keeps timing out on a live connector. A warehouse makes reports faster and cheaper to run once the volume is real.

Google's own BigQuery Data Transfer Service has a Facebook Ads connector. According to Google Cloud's documentation, it supports daily transfers only, with a minimum of 24 hours between runs, refreshes the last 30 days of data on each run (a window you cannot change), supports a fixed set of tables such as AdInsights, AdInsightsActions, Ads, AdSets and Campaigns, and does not support custom reports. The documentation also notes that support for the AdInsightsMMM report was temporarily disabled as of July 6, 2026. Transfer pricing is listed on the BigQuery pricing page.

The 30-day refresh matters because Meta keeps updating recent conversions; reloading the last month on each run picks up late results. The fixed tables matter because you will need SQL or a modelled view to turn them into the shape your report wants. Partition the tables by date, point Data Studio at a summary view rather than raw rows, and the query bill stays small.

08

How do you put Meta, Google Ads and GA4 in one Data Studio report?

Build one data source per platform and combine them with a blend on date and campaign, or better, union them in a Sheet or BigQuery table first. Blends work for simple views but have hard limits that cross-channel reports hit quickly.

Data Studio blends hold up to 5 data sources and use equality joins only, and a blend lives inside one report. Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, GA4 and Search Console already fill all five. Campaign names rarely match across platforms, so joins on campaign drop rows unless you add a mapping table. Many viewers on a GA4-heavy report can also run into the GA4 Data API quota of 14,000 tokens per project per property per hour. For anything beyond a simple spend summary, I usually stack the platforms into one table with the same columns (date, platform, campaign, spend, clicks, conversions) and report from that.

Projects I've led at Greenwolf Tech Labs include marketing dashboards built this way: multi-channel spend, leads and return across Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn, GA4 and Search Console in a single view, so a marketing lead reads one report instead of five platform tabs.

09

When should you hire help, and when should you not?

Do it yourself if you have one ad account, a single brand and a Data Studio template you are happy with. A free or entry connector plan plus an afternoon is the right spend, and paying a consultant would be waste.

Hire help when Meta sits beside several other sources, when numbers keep disagreeing and nobody trusts the report, when you need history Meta's API no longer serves, or when the report has to keep working after the person who built it moves on. That is where design choices (one combined table, owned credentials, a warehouse, clear attribution notes) matter more than the connector you pick.

When I take on a Facebook Ads to Data Studio project, I start with a free review of your accounts, the decisions the report supports and any existing reports. I recommend the cheapest route that will hold up, often a partner connector you already pay for, and quote a fixed price for the build. Everything lives in your Google and Meta accounts from day one.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Data Studio have a native Facebook Ads connector?

No. Data Studio's native connectors cover Google products such as GA4, Google Ads and Search Console, plus Sheets, BigQuery and several databases. Facebook and Instagram ads need a partner connector, a Sheets add-on, a BigQuery pipeline or CSV exports.

What is the best free Facebook Ads connector for Data Studio?

For a single ad account, the free tiers from Windsor.ai, Data Bloo and Dataddo all work, with different limits: one account on Windsor.ai's forever free plan, one account and 300 daily refreshes on Data Bloo's free tier, and up to 3 flows on Dataddo's free account. Pick the one whose paid plan you could live with if you outgrow the free tier.

Why did my Facebook Ads conversions drop in Data Studio in January 2026?

Meta removed the 7-day view and 28-day view attribution windows from its Ads Insights API on January 12, 2026. Reports using those windows began returning fewer conversions. Switch to a click-based window or the 1-day view window and annotate the report so readers understand the change.

Can I connect several Facebook ad accounts to one Data Studio report?

Yes. Most partner connectors let you select several ad accounts in one data source, though entry plans often limit how many. For many accounts, loading them into one BigQuery table or Sheet with an account column is easier to maintain and filter.

Can I include Instagram ads in the same report?

Yes. Instagram ads run through Meta's ad accounts, so they come through the same Facebook Ads connector. Use the placement or platform breakdown to split Facebook from Instagram in your charts.

How far back can I report on Facebook Ads data in Data Studio?

It depends on the field. Since January 2026, Meta's API returns only 13 months for unique-count fields and hourly breakdowns, and only 6 months for frequency breakdowns. To keep longer history, load the data into BigQuery and report from your own tables.

Is it safe to give a connector vendor access to my Meta ad account?

Connectors ask for access through Meta's own permission screen, so you can read exactly what each one requests before approving. Authorise with a company-owned login, review connected apps in Meta Business settings from time to time, and remove vendors you no longer use.
